Blog #37 Uprising

Writer: Jennifer ButzJennifer Butz

Anyone else having a hard time staying focused, careening between rage and emptiness? Trying to cling to each NOW because it’s the only safe place we have?

I’ve been looking for guides to help me through today, tomorrow, and whatever comes next.

This quote from Eleanor Roosvelt has been a magnet on my fridge for about a decade. It is both witty and affirming: A woman is like a tea bag – you never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.

Maya Angelou taught us this: "It may be necessary to encounter the defeats so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it."

Michelle Obama advises us that “…it’s important for you to understand that your experience facing and overcoming adversity is actually one of your biggest advantages."

History has shown us that resistance isn’t born in moments of ease. It’s forged in the fire of challenge. When the ground feels shaky, and the sky seems to be closing in, it’s tempting to retreat or hide. But here’s the thing: women like us don’t break. We bend, we adjust, and then we stand tall again, carrying not only our own burdens but lifting those around us.

I know that right now, it might feel like the hits keep coming. You’ve been showing up, taking action, and doing the work, yet here we are again. We’re exhausted. But let’s remember, as much as these wise women’s words inspire us, our own stories carry power too. We’ve faced storms before—personal, professional, political—and each time, we’ve emerged stronger and more determined.

This isn’t a call to bypass the heartbreak or fear. It’s a call to acknowledge what you’re feeling, to sit with it for a moment. Then, when you’re ready, to use it as fuel. Because our fight is far from over.

In times like these, it helps to have a plan—a set of small, actionable steps to keep us grounded and moving forward. Here’s what’s been helping me:

Stay Informed, but Protect Your Energy: Choose your news sources wisely and set limits. Be informed, not overwhelmed.

Connect with Your Community: We are stronger together. Reach out, share your fears, your hopes, your plans.

Take Action: Whether it’s volunteering, donating, or simply having tough conversations, every step counts. Action is a balm for helplessness.

Practice Radical Self-Care: This isn’t just bubble baths and tea (though those help). It’s setting boundaries, saying no when you need to, and doing what replenishes your spirit.

And when it all feels too much, come back to your breath, to the present moment. Anchor yourself in the NOW, because that’s where our power lives.

Join us at WonderCrone.com on the website or the Facebook page to share your thoughts, ideas, concerns, etc. When we start rising up, we’re going to need to help each other up. None of this will be easy or linear.
